Class Description:

Take a journey through the solar system and beyond, looking at the unique worlds that make up our neighborhood in Space. Learn the mythology that accompanies some of our familiar constellations. Discover why Earth is such a special place.

Outcomes

Upon completion of the Night Sky program students will be able to:

Understand and appreciate the uniqueness of Earth's ecosystems.

Compare and contrast the physical characteristics of the different planets of our solar system.

Appreciate the role of astrology and mythology in understanding astronomy.

Minnesota Graduation Standards

The Night Sky program will provide students with guided practice, in an authentic setting, to support the following Graduations Standards. We have chosen one to three “major focus” standards per grade level. Due to the holistic nature of environmental education, several other standards, not listed here, are addressed as well.
