Ecology & Environmental Ethics

Wolf Ridge’s hands-on skill building Summer Academic Program combines outdoor summer fun and adventure with academic learning. New this summer, we will be offering 2 choices, a 4-week Ecology camp and a 2-week Renewable Resources camp.

Ecology Camp

Classes and activities focus on Freshwater Ecology and Environmental Ethics.

  • earn high school elective science credits
  • conservation and research projects with professionals
  • ecology and natural history focus
  • 5-day field trip to the BWCAW
  • 4-day backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail
  • study the natural history of the North Shore from ecological and social perspectives
  • participate in various field research projects with professionals
  • meet local fishermen and miners
  • learn about and discuss local environmental issues

Renewable Energy Camp

Classes and activities focus on wind, solar, and other renewable energies. With only 2 weeks, there are not as many classes out on trail.

The Experiential Nature

of this curriculum compels participants to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom to real life situations. Students will leave Wolf Ridge with a better understanding of Minnesota’s forests and waterways and of how communities can work together to explore solutions to environmental issues.
