More About the Program

Wolf Ridges’ hands-on, skill building Summer Academic Program combines outdoor summer fun and adventure with academic learning. Our course of study focuses on Freshwater Ecology and Environmental Ethics and will include a five-day field trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and a four-day backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail. Students will study the natural history of the North Shore from ecological and social perspectives, participate in various field research projects with professionals, meet local fishermen and environmental engineers, and learn about and discuss local environmental issues. The experiential nature of this curriculum compels participants to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom to real life situations. Students will leave Wolf Ridge with a better understanding of Minnesota’s forests and waterways and of how communities can work together to explore solutions to environmental issues.

“The experience of being at WRELC was just wonderful. I cannot even compare it to any other.”
