The small staff to camper ratio lends a family-like atmosphere to each co-ed group. As a result, groups become close and the whole camp becomes a unique community! We create a real home-away-from-home.
Preparing Your Child For Camp
Summer Camp is an exciting thing for parents as well as campers. Your child is going to learn a lot of new things at Wolf Ridge as well as meet a lot of new people. Preparing your children for their first time at camp is very important to their success. Below, you will find great ways to get your child get ready for their Wolf Ridge experience.
- Chances are your child knows others who have been to an overnight camp before, or maybe they have already been to Wolf Ridge with a school group. This provides a great opportunity to share stories and ask questions about the camp experience.
- Use our website with your child to help them become familiar with Wolf Ridge and see where they are going to sleep, swim, eat and participate in activities. Feel free to tour campus together when you arrive.
- Please label all of your child’s belongings. Have them help in the packing process so they know what they are responsible for.
- Campers look forward to hearing from their parents while at camp as well as sending post cards home. We suggest that you have self-addressed, stamped post cards packed in your child’s bag to send to you. Also if you wish to send letters to your child, ensure they are upbeat in such a way that will not make the camper miss home. Encouraging your camper and letting them know that you are very proud of them for going to camp and trying new activities will contribute greatly to a positive week away from home.
- We are about an hour and forty-five minutes north of Duluth, MN (driving directions.) When you arrive, we hope you will have time to meet the counselors and naturalists who will be working with your child. Please be sure to send the camper information and health and release form in advance if possible.
- Temporary homesickness is a normal reaction, particularly among new campers. Our staff makes every effort to help campers accept the natural feeling of missing family and friends. We welcome the opportunity to help children grow in this area and train our staff to handle homesickness in constructive and caring ways. With proper handling by the staff, campers and parents, the camper can make a big stride in growing up.
- Know that the Camp Director is always available to answer your questions or concerns. Do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or need clarification.
Food Service
Camp meals are served cafeteria style in our dining hall. Both meat and vegetarian options are available. Please be sure to indicate any vegetarian preference, food allergies, or special dietary needs on your camper forms and send them in advance so our chef will be able to plan meals appropriately. Campers will have a turn at helping serve and clean up after meals during "KP".
Camper Dorms
Campers are housed in our West Dorm, the ground floor of which is totally dedicated to the camp program in the summer (naturalist housing is upstairs.) Each room contains several bunks and houses 3-5 campers plus a counselor. Each Girls and Boys section has a bathroom and shower down the hall. Room-mate requests are welcome.
