Summer Camp at Wolf Ridge
Enriching Kid's Lives:
Growing Up Outdoors

Junior Naturalists

Entering Grades 10-11
Lake Superior is truly an extraordinary place. The lake’s pristine beauty and frigid waters inspire and awe visitors alike. Equally special is the watershed, where forests, wetlands, lakes and bedrock cover the landscape and lively trout streams tumble toward the lake. Did you know that Lake Superior contains one-tenth of the world’s supply of fresh water, 95% of the United States’ supply of fresh water, and one-half of all the water in the Great Lakes? Together with naturalists, researchers and fellow campers, kayak and explore this global treasure.

1-Week In-Camp Focus

Combine learning and forming tight-knit friendships with a healthy dose of fun! Explore the ecology and diversity of Minnesota’s many lakes and rivers, participate in research with biologists and kayak on Lake Superior. Campers will leave the week more confident in their naturalist and research skills.

2-week In-Camp/Apostle Islands Sea Kayak

Isle Royale National Park is the theme for this session. Campers will explore the natural and cultural history of the island before heading there for a 6 day backpacking adventure. Price includes ferry transportation and park fees. - FULL

Theme-Based Program Varies Year-to-Year

The Junior Naturalist program is one of our most popular programs. Building on outdoor science knowledge and skills, the campers investigate some aspect of the natural world in depth. Themes for these weeks are chosen and developed by experts in natural history and ecology, and are usually determined by late spring.

Lake Superior is the 2010 Theme

Themes of the past: Leadership, North Shore Natural History, Life Under Water, Meteorology and Astronomy, Geology and North Shore, Archaeology on the North Shore, The Baptism River, North Shore Resources, Naturalists at Night, Wildlife Studies, Geology.
